The poor?

    Sometimes, we do show mercy to the poor, however, since I discovered that nine in ten of the beggars are not from our province, I can't help thinking are we Cantonese that rich, that they all rush south for golds? Is there any gold in Guangdong province?
    Guangdong is full of dust, noises, and getting more and more crowded! We know for sure at the end of every lunar year, millions of people working here hurry to go their northern home---it is very common that some people have made big money by buying quantities of long-distance tickets and selling them again to the out-of-province laborers at a much high price; whereas the others come here to find their new spring opportunities. This is what Guangdong has become!
     Right at the end of the lunar year, it was frigid outside.
     While returning to school from the net cafe, a man stopped me, and he said,
     "Hey, Could you buy a piece of bread for our little boy? We just came from Fujian province and have been hunting for a job all day. Our little boy has eaten nothing all day long...."
     At that moment, I really didn't know what to do next---should I ignore them and leave? Of course, I don't owe them, and it's none of my business; and can I trust what he said to me? I am so confused.
     I kept looking at the child, about 7 years old, pretty cute and his eyes full of expectation. Considering they only begged me for a piece of bread and "We are brothers in the whole country", I decided to do them a little favor, giving 5 Yuan to them, and let them be.
     Nowadays, recalling that incident again and again, I just consider that if anything happens again like that, I will not do the same thing. I don't why, maybe I am thinking we are just common people and there still has to be the poor in the world; we can't do much for this unjust world until communism succeeds!?
