On 17 June it was confirmed by the Health Protection Agency that one final-year student at the University of Bristol had contracted swine flu. Late on 18 June a further seven cases were confirmed. All the individuals concerned are undergraduates belonging to the same friendship group. They are receiving treatment and recovering at their private residences in Bristol.
Close contacts of these students are being informed, given antiviral drugs as a precaution and advised to watch for symptoms .
