The highest court in the US is considering the constitutionality of the new health care law. The surprim court heard three days of aguments this week over the question of what is called the individual meindate. It is the part of the fortable care act which congress passed and president Obama said in the law two years ago.
The individual meindate requires all Americans to buy health insurance by 2014 or face a fine.  26 states and a group representing spor businesses said the law is unconstitutional. If the law takes effect about 30 millions of Ameicans not currently covered will have to join the help insurance system.
Supporters said this will reduce health care cost for all Ameicans. For a ponents, the question is whether the federal goverment has the right to tell people what they can or can not do. During agruements, justics Atelin Scolier put the question this way. " The federal goverment does not both be a goverment that has all powers. That supposed being goverment of limited powers that  would all this questions is about. What is life if the goverment can do this what else not do."
The Obama administration says the law has already help millions of Americans. It says over two million young people have remained on their parents health insurances plans since Sep.2010. Before then, many young people lost health coverage after they left home or reach a certain age. Heath care costs are growing at rate that many experts say can not be supported. The consile of economic advisers advices the president on economic issues. It warns that at the current growth rate healthcare spending will be responsable for 34% of economy by 2014. Currently, healthcare is almost one fifth of the economy. That is the big problem for the federal goverment. It pays from medicare, health insurance for older adults, had medicate the program for poor people. And as the population ages more people will depend on this programs.
During the arguements this week, justics Steve Briare noted the issues is import. "It shows there is a national problem and it shows there is a national problem that involves money, cost, insurance."
The high court is expected to role on the individual meindate in June. But the effects of the ruling are expected to influence healthcare policy for years to come.
