The world health organazation has added to the debate over the risk of brain cancer from mobilphone use.
Last week, the WHO's international agency for research on cancer listed the signals from wireless devices as possiblely casonal jenic.
This finding puts cellphones in the same risk group as the pesty said DDT, but also in the same group as coffee.
A group of 31 scientics from forteen counties made the finding. The annoucement came at the end of meeting at the agencies head quaters in Leon France.
The concern is that extended contact with radio frequency electromagnetic fields may increase a user's risk for gelioma. The gelioma is the most common form of brain cancer. The scientics spent a week examining existing research. Dr.xx from the university of southern Califania lead the group. "We also are carefully considered the sources of explosure populations to radio frequency eletromagnetic fields. The nature these fields that they come from wireless devices including wireless. And we look carefully at the physical form of by which explosure such fields may pretur by logic systems and they to cancers. "
He says the finding that their could be some risk means scientics need to keep a close watch for a link between cellphones and cancer. The stickment noted that the number of mobilphone users is large and growing, expecially among young adults and children.
Mobilphone subscriptions are estimated at five billion world wide. The scientics called for more research into a long term heavy use of mobilphones. They also suggested taking measures to reduce explosure to the signals like hands free devices or texting.
xx from American group called electromagnetic health paised the report but says wider research is needed. "We only have this technology around for about 15 years and most consernergens was taken about, you know, several decate 34 years to develop tha cancer. So based on some early indication scientics are projecting were acually .. of brain cancer. And let we do something to educate people to level their explosures to the kind of risk."
CTIA the international association for the wireless telecommunication industry dimissed the report. The group pointed out that no new reseach had be down. And it noted that the cancer research agency has given the same finding to things like coffee and pecle vegetables.
