Last year, the school system used digital books in 15 schools. This school year, middle schools and high schools changed from printed to electronic textbooks in their social studies classes.
Loke Roser is a history teacher at Fouse Cherch high school. His students work on school lap-top computers, he explains the idea to them this way. "I mean it's like regularly textbook exercise the score all of us."
Perter Newnen, an assitant super intended of schools says with eletronic textbooks, publishers can quickly update the content with the latest information. "The words changing, consistantly and online textbooks can change. Read one was invest they hyberlink."
Digital books also cost less than printed textbooks, he says. "Usually, it's in the neiboral heard of between 50 and 70 dollars to buy textbooks for each students. Which adds up to roughly eight million dollars for all of the students in .. We actually have purchased all of the online textbooks for students for just under six million dollars."
So what do students think? "I don't have to carry texted groud, so that's nice." "I don't like it, because the internet sometimes doesn't where." "You can have lay your work, you can emoze on your work, and .... "
Social studies teacher, Micron Benbaro, says the ebook he uses in his goverment class is better than a printed textbook. He likes the way it has materials for students with different levels of rating scales. "Paticurly this book that I use in goverment has different reading levels, so a person can individual lies, they are learning and can individual lies their instruction."
But the students also need exercise to the internet when they are not at school. About 10% of students in Fairfex Conty, do not a computer or online access at home. Steven Cosdill is one of them. "But much corts like the labrary ..."
Public labraries in the conty have free internet. They are also after school computer labs, as well as computer clobe houses supported by the conty. Middle school students Slimen Harkem is happy about that. He says his family shares a single computer at home. "All of my family what's on the computer, my sister and me brought our homework on there. So I came here to do my homework. It's good."
Other school systems in the area area also considering online textbooks. In prinsh Jogeds Conty Miroland, a survey showed that 60% of students have computer access at home. Griculorm director xx says an ebook test project is being plant. "Next year, we'll just have a palet with probablely one classroom in one subject area. So we can see you know what issues will come up we complete online access."
