Technology experts, goverment officals,policy magers and engineers are meeting this week in Italy.They have gathered in a room for the first green standards week conference.
Italy's ministry of economic development and the international telecommunication's union organize the conference. The event calls attention to the need for information and communication technologies to fight climate change and to build greener,more enviomently, friendly ecomonies.
In recently years,the world has change because so many people now use computers,mobilphones and other kinds of electroic devices. But increasing use of information and communication technologies also known as ICTs also has lead to more bolution.Especaily,green house gas emmitions. This is mostly because of the energy used to manufacture,transport and operate such equitment. Still, many experts say ICTs offered the best chance for reducing green house gases.
The global information sercuity watch reported last year that ICTs could help to cut total production of green house gases by as much as 50% by 2020. Allen Felly is with the assoiation for prograssive communications. He also helped to prepared the gase watch report. He says the effect of using ICTs to build cleaner enviorments is far more powerful than their harmful effects. "When you looking at greeting with ICTs,and impact of ICTs on the environment but also what ICTs can be used is order to improve the impact of other industry on the envionment. Mr.Felly says the gas watch report and the events like the ITUs green standards week are made to look at the ICTs industry as a whole. "..issues like you advice what you see that mathmatics consqenses in Asia..and direct impact on poor people lives will well being,from the eqution. So,both need to be looked at at the same time."
The ITU says a main goal of the conference is to set clear policies for measuring and improving the ICT indusy's effect on the enviorenment.Another goal is to note the importants of the green ICT standards and values.
The room meeting is taken place less than three month before the united nations climate change conference opens in Derbens South Arica.
