Last week, we reported on microsoft cooperations imagine cup finals in the US. Team flash food from Arizoner state university won top honorers at the event. It's mobil application and website let hotels, restaurants and farmers markets donate food to people who need it.
The flash food project grow out of the engineering projects in community service program at Arizoner state. The director of the program Richard Fily says the project has far reaching possibilities. Mr.Fily plans to work with the team to decide what changes are nessary to make the product sucessful in other countries. For example, he notes method of saving on eaten food, commonly called a docky bag. "After you've gong to a restaurant ...need all of the food, you take with left overing and put it into what's called the dogy bag. You take home you might sheet to the dog where you may eat it. With those cultures in those different countries. Be open to the idea of taking left over food and using flash food to connect with people who are hungry. We don't know the answer to that yet."
The microsoft imagine cup competition is now in it's tenth year. Marky Heisbal is a vice president with microsoft. He says students today have a lot of technology available to help with their projects. "At the begining people will build almost everything from trach. We have built a lot of things in the industry over those ten years. " Mr.Heisbal says many of the software applications needed to complete such projects or ready exsist. He offers team flash food as a good example. "The fact that they can build on the assumption. And then there are smartphones in the hands of most of the people that they need to cordinate with, there is online service with mapping in term and turn by turn direction."
The microsoft offical says solving world problems is a major goal of the imagine cup competition. But he adds, there is another goal that is equally important. "In the US, a law we have in our probably around million jobs that risk been on field over the next five years within the software and text sector. Because we don't have enough, a students when you look the pipelines insides technology engineer and math. We come up we should."
Marky Heisbal says he welcomes any efforts to increase interests in this areas of study. A team from Dricksoal university also was a winner at the imagine cup finals in the US. The Dricksoal dreiggens design to gain to help students better understand math. The doctor Fish ball team from Comligy Malen university design a game that teachers about sustainability by products and waste.
Team Flash food will represident the US at the imagine cup world wide finals in Sidly Australia. The event takes place July sixth through the tenth.
